Is LSE a prestigious uni ?

I wouldn't want to sound rude but the title of the thread is just silly.

LSE is number one in the UK:
- for salaries after graduation
- economics and some other subjects (sorry, can't quote)
- for graduate employment schemes in the world's top companies

Dude, why the question whether LSE is prestigious??

Don't be too offended, I've seen this question asked with pretty much any "top ten" or so uni (Imperial, LSE, Warwick, Durham, Bristol, Edinburgh...)

Are you an admissions tutor?

There is no clear evidence that LSE do look for mountains of GCSEs. This "6 A* rule" just does not stand up. It may be true in economics, it's in massive demand and is the one area where LSE are aguably on par with Oxbridge. They need to look at every single thing they possible can. It doesn't mean it's the same in every course, or that a set number are needed in economics

ok, i understand some people are posting here have got in for Law with bad GCSEs, and its because, putting it bluntly, they go to a **** school. the "6A* rule does apply for law" - a few of my friends have rang the Law admissions office...and they made it very clear that if you didn't have 6A*s, you wouldn't be considered for a place for Law.....there's nearly 3000 applicants for 150 places....that's 1 in 20 roughly....that is very competitive, and given that they don't interview, they don't do LNAT, and EVERYONE applies with AAA, it's quite clear GCSEs are going to be a crucial, if not the most crucial factor, along with the personal statement....however, LSE make exceptions to the rule, and rightly so, for people who have not had a decent education...so i don't want to sound negative, but i think it's important to highlight the situation to the OP...and see what he thinks...and anyway - that ridiculous amount of competition is only present in Law and Economics it seems...so i woudln't be too worried OP if you're applying for something else.

At least someone speaks sense

Back to your question OP LSE is very prestigious (I'm suprised you don't know this yet). It's a specialist college and therefore is going to be very strong in the social sciences (namely economics and politics) and is second only to Oxbridge.

Given what i've said above, i think it's clear law should be added to that list  ....because it is second only to oxbridge...it's consistently gets the highest amount of 1sts bar oxbridge and is Consistently 3rd in the league table bar the odd anomalous year!

Like this year. And last year. And the first four years of the table's existence, where it was 4th to Durham :p:

But yeah, it's been 3rd a couple of times

Even if it does that's still only one department (with economics that makes two). Hardly every course

If a university really does have a strict A* requirement (as in a set number needed each year - six) they should make it clear on the admissions section (otherwise it results in uneccesary applications and work for them). That they don't suggests that a high number aren't needed (so not six every year) and that exceptions are made.

No it's not. Well, it is, but only with UCL, Durham, Bristol and Nottingham. The difference between them isn't really worth arguing about.

Because other schools have improved?

They are only rankings. It remains that all of the unis I listed are arguably the elite.

LSE probably shades it ahead of UCL and Durham but if you're sad enough to argue about three or four places in a league table then go ahead.

yeh lol cba arguing about it....but to go back to the OP's original query...LSE is regarded very highly by employers...i don't think anyone will query that...but it depends what kind of job you want...for certain jobs, like investment banking, employers are very picky about universitey...they openly favour LSE applicants...but then again other employers from different fields couldn't care less...along as you have a good degree....but a degree from LSE will always look good

Okay so theres now a serious chance that I could get into LSE and I was just wondering whether it's a uni that would impress prospective employers? A teacher of mine said that when he went there the reputation wasn't amazing so i'm just wondering whether that would be in the mind of possible employers ?

LSE is incredibly prestigious!! One of the top in the country!!

Okay well for starters everyone is going to have AAA, even though they say AAB they really mean AAA...
And about your GCSE's unless you have a significant reason for not performing better and can prove this to them, there not exactly top notch for LSE alumni.

LSE are also known for being GCSE NAZI'S!!

6 A* at GCSE is very normal at LSE.

Are you serious?

I only got one A* at GCSE....:frown:
I dont understand why this question is being raised.
