Adhd and online learning.

How does one stay on top of work? Sos!! I’m currently studying a level french, English and theatre studies. Please help! I’m really crumbling physically and mentally.
Ask for support from your establishment
Unless medicated and you have a well structured course you will probably fail. Ask school for help.
fellow adhd sufferer (unmedicated all my life for various reasons, the current one being the fact that i can't get an appointment with a specialist due to All This), and it absolutely ISN'T impossible for you to succeed, but it will be more difficult.

one of the biggest problems i had throughout school and then university was executive dysfunction - that is basically a difficulty with planning and "getting your act together", as it were. i don't know if you have the same problem but it's likely.

the first thing you need to do is tell your school/college that you're struggling to cope because of your adhd. mention specific things that you're struggling with, and ask them what help they can provide to help you do as well as you can. they should be willing to work with you.

the way i've found to stay on top of work is to-do lists. like, a lot of to-do lists, with VERY specific tasks on them. i basically treat my brain like a toddler that you can't tell "you need to get dressed" but "you need to get dressed. first, put on underwear, then a shirt, then trousers, and then your socks and shoes", because otherwise it's impossible to figure out where to start. (also, it feels great to be able to tick things off a to-do list.)

finally, make sure you are taking care of yourself. if you find that you hyperfocus on what you're doing when you get really into your work, set alarms for every hour, or hour and a half, or so to make sure that you get up and move and destress a little.

good luck!

Thank you so much to everyone who replied. My biggest problem is that I know it’s ridiculous but I hate feeling stupid by asking for help. I have already asked for help from my teachers but I just seem to be lagging behind even when they give me extensions and I get weekly graded which means that when I don’t do the homework it goes towards my uni predictions and so I’d rather lie and pretend that I’m having laptop problems than for them to think that I’m dumb. I know this is stupid. I take medication and although it helps with my attention, like @carlodivarga-s said it’s starting my tasks that I find impossible. I always just feel like I have too much and don’t know where to start. I will start doing more to do lists that sounds like a good idea. Anyway thank you for replying and sorry if this doesn’t make sense I’ve just been doing a frenxh translation so my brain hurts even more than it usually does.

@carlodivarga-s what do you study at university out of interest and where? I really want to go to uni, Bristol in particular but I’m so scared about the workload. I can produce amazing work but to do that I literally destroy myself mentally and physically. Sorry I know I sound so dramatic.

i did history and music at chichester and i'm going to start an mres in music at nottingham in september. i've found that universities are very happy to work with neurodiverse students (i'm autistic as well as having adhd).

the workload at university is generally a lot more spread out than at school/college; the main issue i had was that i would end up writing essays (apart from my dissertation) the night before they were due.
I would disagree for me my medication is like glasses for driving, I can drive without them but it's alot harder experience and your more likely to crash. you don't have as good eyesight so you're slower, you lose your car keys, you hit the gears while changing, you hit potholes, you can't listen to music or drive with others in the car because you get distracted, you can't follow the satnav, you get close calls when changing lanes....this isn't set in stone but you can see how all these factors are more impaired without medication and this all adds up.

you have to split up your time short study bursts help, don't use your own judgement get you mum/ dad to

bring you a cup of tea to have a break every so often and switch up what your studying.
