ooooooooooooooooooooooooh, that is expensive, at my uni i am going to it is free! (well the annual price is incorporated into the accomodation fee)

Edit: cycle, cheaper and greener
£7 a week. £1 a day. That's a bargain.
My yearly bus pass with First Eastern Counties is £800. I win.

Well I loose but you get the idea. :frown:

And the worst bit is that if I lived at the other end of my road it would be totally free (well it would be free but I wouldn't be able to go to Norwich on it so really that's only £360). I hate Norfok County Council.

EDIT: not "other end of my room", "other end of my road".

No, it shouldn't be that expensive. I'd expect it to be around the £235 mark they said it would be at the open day. Did you perhaps look at the Leicestershire ticket or the Leicester plus saver area ticket? You only need the Leicester city ticket as this covers a large enough area i.e you can get out to halls of residence and further if you want.

That's a link which shows you the Leicester City Saver area. As you can see it covers halls/Meridian park (there's a bowling alley/cinema there  ) and Fosse park.

When I went on the arriva website I could only get prices for last year's summer and spring terms, so I'm clearly missing something (have you got the link for the page you saw?), but it really shouldn't cost £300+. Arriva do put prices up sometimes but not generally that much!

lol, it's more fun in Aberdeen, where the price is different depending where you study.

How long does it take to walk from Beaumont to the campus? Do many people cycle?

I get a free one because my dad is an arriva bus driver, hehe
erm I dont know jack about this? Can someone explain please?
Should I be getting one of these now, hopefully Ill be in JF or Beaumont in terms of residence..Im confused...theres so much to do :yay:

I would recommend all Oadby residents to purchase this. HOWEVER the £370 pass is for the entire east midlands, so unless your planning on visiting nottingham, coventry and loughborough regularly, purchase the £230 one which covers every leicester route you will need .

well... if youre living in oadby halls, it'll be about 15-20 minutes away fro the university, so if you're planning on getting there by bus, it is better to get a student bus pass for the whole year, rather than pay £3.50 every day for a day ticket. it works out much cheaper. The buses that run from halls to uni to town and vice verse are run by the Arriva bus company.

I rang them up last week and they said student passes should be available n the Arriva website to buy this week... this week has come and gone lol so i dont know what's happening there. Also, it is cheaper to buy online than from the Arriva office in Leicester. hope that helps. as for the full year price of a pass i have no idea lol... i'm still confused by their mishmash of prices and tickets.

As has already been mentioned, the link you had was for the East Midland bus pass, the Leicester City one will be cheaper than that . When the ticket becomes avaliable, it is cheaper to buy it online than at the bus station/freshers fair, however you will need to pick up the pass or pay for recorded delivery.

Walking times vary on who you ask, but an average time seems to be 40 - 50 minutes. Took me about 45 minutes . You can cycle in around 15-20 minutes, which at the start of term and early in the mornings can be faster than the bus! People do cycle, and there are places to store bikes in halls/ loads of places to lock bikes on campus.

I'd say you should get the bus pass even if you think you will cycle/walk mostly, I intended to cycle all the time, but once it got cold/rained lots/I had freshers flu, good intentions went out the window ! Also you'll probably want to get the bus at some stage to go to the union in the evenings/into the city.

You guys just want this one:

http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/__80256E4D002F7E0E.nsf/vWeb/wpSRVM75TGA6?Open&region=Midlands&town=Leicester

This will do you fine! It gets you to uni and into Leicester itself  Unless you live in Nottingham/Conventry etc. then I wouldn't bother with the other one.
Think I'll save 95% of the cost and just get a waterproof.

Walking isnt too bad, i used to manage it in half an hour however if all your mates get the bus its not much fun :frown:
Also here is some advice about buses that you will thank me for later:

1) GET THE 31 NOT THE 80! The 31 passes through Oadby every 5-6 mins compared to the 80 which can be anywhere from every 10 mins to every half hour. The buses are nicer on the 31 route, less packed and if you dont have a bus pass its free return so £1.20 rather than the £3 you would pay on the 80. It doesnt stop exactly at uni but stops about 5 mins walk away on London Road.

2)The queue for the 80 in the morning can go on forever and if your not early you will probably have to wait for another bus. If you do have to get the 80 in the morning get it from the John Foster Bus stop regardless of what halls you are in. This is because the bus stops at JF first, fills up with people and then by the time it gets to the other halls it wont let anyone else on and you'll be left waiting for the next bus with only 5 mins to get to your seminar where you've got to give a presentation thats worth 20% of your module mark (or something like that :s-smilie:)

3) The 80 takes longer than you think in the morning cause of traffic. If you've got to be in by 9 get to the bus stop at 8:15 to be on the safe side. Its a bit stupid really and I just found i could spend an extra 15mins in bed and then walk in and easily get there in time.
