slightly depressed due to fitness level and comments

well here it goes.. ive wanted to talk to someone about how i've felt for ages and today is the day im gonna let it out.. any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Well im 18 years old and am succesful at school academically, currently the Head boy. Im no nerd or anything, im not shy to speak to girls or go clubbing or anything...but i dont like doing sport!! sound lame? does to me!

Im not obese by any means but i was overweight and since the holiday began ive lost a lot of weight by dieting about 10kg.. i would say i look normal sized now and i no longer get any of my friends calling me fat or anything. But, i still do have a tummy and man boobs that im trying to get rid, which hopefully this thread will help me with...

Currently, i do very little sport, used to play a lot of tennis, squash and golf, but recently have stopped. Reason being i have knocked knees, which is a condition where when your knees are touching your ankles dont - they bend outwards. The reason i dont do sport anymore is because say a year ago when i was more active ( and bigger) whenever i would run people would laugh at the way i ran and i thnk at my stomach jiggling!! :s-smilie:
I got my legs looked at when i was 15 and the doctor recommend me gettin staples put in place so that my bentness can be corrected but unfortunately my parents are really old fashioned and refused the surgery. My knocked knees have become worse but there are not that visible depending on how i stand and i presume it looks terribly funny when i run! And it is for this reason that i have stopped any sports that require me to run so no football or anythin..
My fitness level is rubbish and is gettin worse by the lack of sport i do. But i want this to change!!
Everyweek theres a social footy game at the club and all my friends go, i used to go, but i've stopped cos i wasnt very good (and still aint) as well as the above running problems. They tell me to come but i dont want to because i dont want to be laughed at and dread there disses which i used to get previously. A lot of my mates take any oppertunity to diss me infornt of others when it comes to sports because i out do them hands down in school academics. I also know there are others that go for the football match that are as bad as me in playing or even worse.. but still fear going.
I dont want to be left out anymore and want to up my fitness level.. and maybe even get better at football.. hopefully doing these things at home privately. Any ideas on how i can improve my fitness level at home?.. i dont have any gyming euipment only an indoor and outdoor cycle? Any football drills that'll help me improve?
I dont go gyming either because of the embarassment that my knee condition causes.. but im loooking into it.. talking to the instrucotor and hopefully will get his advice, soon.
I'd also like to build some muscle as my arms are not sculpted at all and kinda soft.. i dont mind spending money on buying small equipment: dumbells etc.

whoa.. that was long and probably not very clear.. but any help is much appreciated thanks.

You could do floor exercises and things like sit ups and lunges  Or home fitness videos too (but you may find it a bit girly? :s-smilie: I'm not sure >_<) I hope that's not too vague. If it's embarrassment over your knee problem that's preventing you from doing exercise in public...you could take up swimming maybe? It may be less noticable. But you shouldn't listen to comments like that anyway - they're obviously jealous of your brains  Don't let them get you down! Hope this helps ^-^

You can go gym, gyms are made for all types of people

Well if you want to start with something small, you've mentioned your arms and you can get a fairly reasonable set of dumbbells from Argos for fairly little money. Something like some 5kg ones to start you off with. Curls, concentrated curls, kick backs, trap raises, flies, front raises, back raises and add in some dips and both types of push ups. You'll gain muscle, and hence raise your metabolism and lose more weight, and you'll also get into a routine, which is often the biggest stumbling block to starting to get fit!

you're 18 now, get the operation
then once you're knees are fixed get sprinting, and eat healthy

just go to the gym, people really wont care how you look, and they wont really be spending their time looking at you..

if you are feeling self conscious though, why not go at a time when there will be less people you would be self conscious around? for example at my old gym, in the afternoons i would hate going because it would be filled with guys my age who were really fit so i felt like an idiot, but at certain times it was mainly middle aged housewivey types so i felt pretty good about myself...that can help

go get it checked out properly first then, and get GP to refer you to a specialist asap (cos they take ages)
and ask them what the best course of action is

You can get the surgery now even though your bones have stopped growing. I broke my elbow in august, a few weeks before i turned 18 and i had to get an operation on it! So yeh i think you would be able to get the op!

And a form of exercising you could do would be press-up's (Triangle press-ups and normal press-ups)...Sit-up's and many other things in your own home! if you search about the internet, you can find plenty of exercises to do.

Hope this helps! (Y)

Go to the gym as there are a vast number of machines that do not require you to run and that can be used whilst having limited leg movement. The equipment at a gym is also the fastest way to sculpt your arms well. If you also want a quicker way to gaining muscle, go on creatine/ protein blends as they help a lot, but can be expensive.
