Hi there, I have a quick question regarding super-curricular activities regarding my personal statement. I've been told by my sixth form staff and most places online that, if you are to apply to highly selective universities (I want to apply to Cambridge, St Andrews, Durham, Edinburgh and one more), that my extra-curricular activities are only useful for my application if they are directly related to the subject you want to study, in my case, History (and maybe Philosophy if I apply for Double Honours at St Andrew's). I'm not sure, however, where I should begin for history. I've heard essay comps are a good place to start, however I still am not entirely sure on what ideal super-curricular are for history, so any help would be much appreciated.

I would agree tbh. For essay comps here is my list and luckily for you there are many open: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/sho....php?t=6419758 I recommend wider reading as well: https://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/study/un...y-reading-list Podcasts are great as well I recommend In Our Time: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/b006qykl You can watch some lectures online here's one from Newcastle uni: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/events/public-lectures/ You could do an EPQ as well but it's only available if your school does it. You could watch documentaries. I recommend this site as it has some great links: https://www.myheplus.com/post-16/subjects/history You could read some academic journals I recommend JSTOR: https://www.jstor.org/ You could watch some TED talks on youtube as well
