Toffs?
Are the type of people who apply to UCL generally toffs ? or is there a range of social backgrounds ?

It's London...
By definition, there's going to be all types of people there. (My friend who goes to UCL would certainly say that.)
Anyway, I'm not a toff and I've applied!

Im far from a "toff" and i've applied and friends who have applied are pretty normal.
Although it is a top uni and im pretty sure there will be a number of people studying there from "toff" type backgrounds.

I very much doubt it! 
Most people applying there will probably be thinking the same thing just like yourself, and most of them will probably not be toffs at all. I've never visited it but I had interviews at Ox, and I didn't come accross a single toff! So UCL can't really be any worse. Before I went people told me it was gonna be full of 'public school boys' and I shouldn't even apply... biggest load of crap ever.

London is the most diverse place on the face of the Earth. Period. It is not "full of" anything, in the same way that it is full of everything: black/white/brown/yellow/blue people, the poorest and richest people. Plus, UCL has the historic reputation of being one of the most accepting uni's... Wasn't it the first to let women have degrees or something? I'm sorry, again, TOFFS?? Who actually says this? Jeez...
A few years ago there was some scandal about UCL reserving places for people who came from the worst schools but who still managed to achieve competetive grades. You might call them "financially disadvantaged" or "peasants". Does that answer your ridiculous question?

toffs at UCL..i shud know...i went there..
YES there are bare toffs at UCL. BUT, sum of them are proper safe. and remeber there are also a few non-toffs. Most people from Ramsay Hall are toffs.
Also,UCL does have alot of provate school kids, but y shud that bother U?

oh well... if you dont like the person dont hang around them. The place is diverse enough for there to be some safe people around. Some toffs maybe safe, hopefully. Can't see myself having a decent conversation with the majority of them though. UCL is hardly oxford / bristol, when i visited them two places, there were loads!
