Will eBay mind/find out if I lie to them about my age?

My parents don't want to set up an account, but i'd like one. Will they mind if I increase my age a little?

What ways are ther of them finding out?

Its the internet. Theres nothing stopping you from lying about your age. I could be a 56yr old pervert for all you know (I'm not by the way :smile:

There are loads of underage ebayers about. If they found out the worst that would happen would be you getting chucked off.

The phone number is obtainable by anyone you're in a transaction with. Putting your mobile number is fine however.

heh, don't worry about it.

Ebay can't check on your address *really* - they just say that.

Feel free to lie your way through the registration stage! But, remember to use Ebay properly!

I'm afraid you must put your phone number (as I said a mobile would be fine). Don't put a false number: firstly it is important that the other party in a transaction should have the option of contacting you by phone should there be problems with email (by the way your number will have to be specially requested by the other party, and you will get their number emailed to you too; it doesn't often happen though), and secondly if you are reported for having a false number you could well get suspended.

i'm not worried about eBay knowing my address! i'm sure far more interesting people are members. Its just i read about this person on eBay who got stalked/sent nasty letters by a guy she bought something from.

possibly just an urba legend thou...

i set up my account when i was 16 (im assuming the proper age is 18), using my debit card. I'm 19 now and they didnt find anything out. they might introduce new measures to find out now days though, although i doubt it. try and find out. :cool:
