also it was voted as one of top uni for international students and welcomes over 2000 international students yearly

Not sure about the university, but the actual city will probably be one of the most ignorant places you'll ever visit.

Don't mean to make you feel worried, but that's just how it is.

I would say the university is hugely so. As everyone has said, there is a huge intake of international students.

Hull itself is not so multicultural, purely because I think the area is not very well off, so if people are moving to England, there are better places to go, London for a start! But there is a massive Polish / East European community and a big Islamic population also.

Met with abuse??? like what??? That's kinda worrying :s-smilie:

clearly you've had a bad experience but I've never seen / heard of any bad feeling or abuse towards other nationalities, races or religions. The only intolerence is between the two Hull Rugby league teams!
Reply 9
A lot of chinese people always get on/off the bus outside uni. As already mentioned there's a large polish community in Hull, and I see/know people from most cultures.
Reply 10
oh yes, i forgot that one! theres a big chinese intake, I think Hull are partnered with a fair few schools in China.

No I've lived in Hull for 18 years and I'm white, so I'm not bitter or anything. I think it's partly down to the fact that education levels are low and the majority of the population are very typical white working class van owners (big generalisation sorry!) who assume that immigration and thus everyone who isn't white and from Yorkshire make up the sole reason behind why they can't afford to go to Malaga every year.

Please don't be worried because the area around the uni isn't really like that because of the students. But a lot of the city is.

i suppose, just to kinda show you - I know people from: France, Germany, Spain, Columbia, USA, New Zealand, Australia, China, Poland, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Jordan.... I'm sure theres many more!

I don't dispute the fact that Hull uni will have tonnes of students from every corner of the globe at all, I'm just saying that the locals don't tend to be liberal and accepting people. Of course in some areas they will be, but in most they're not. I lived in the east of the city for about 14 years and people were shockingly racist, but now I live in Kirkella (just outside the city) and you don't really get much of it...but there's still this little underlying attitude. Anyways, I have been living here for 18 years so maybe I'm just hyper sensitive to it lol....:yep:
