As my third choice uni im meant to choose a 'safe' option. So which uni is better in terms of having the least number of applicants, required grades and competitiveness? And which one is generally better?

Whether one will have 2000 applicants and the other only 1000, the competitiveness will pretty much be the same- its medicine.

You shouldn't be focusing on which one is "better". Research the course from both unis and see what they offer. E.g: is one CBL and the other PBL- which one do you prefer. So that sort of research. You may find that you may prefer a uni outside of London. You never know.
