Physics: Line spectra and bombarding electrons?

(I'm not sure which exam board this question is from, I haven't seen anything about bombarding electrons in my AQA textbook)
1- Idk which line spectra they're talking about (emission or absorption?)
2- What do they mean by bombarding electrons?
Any tips to go about answering the question too if that's okay...

It's a description of the operation of a gas discharge lamp - if you've done hydrogen discharge lamps and the Balmer series it'll be the same principle as that.
You'll have to talk about the electrons in the atoms jumping between low and high energy shells when they absorb energy from the environment and jumping between high and low energy shells when a photon is emitted.
I think this is also referencing the Franck-Hertz experiment. Screenshot from an old textbook.
