Relationships - Why are Boyfriends so Protective?

Why are some boys so protective over their girlfriends? It’s like if a boy comes over to talk to her, the boyfriend gets all overly protective and sometimes aggressive with the other boy. Why don’t they just leave their girlfriends to defend themselves?

It depends on the boyfriend. Some usually in the beginning stages are prone to be protective even a bit overprotective. During the later stages, they ease as they get used to the relationship.

Imo only a small % will be protective as you describe and more likely to be territorial and possessive.
