When you enquire about contact lenses at the Optician's, you have to make a special appointment, at which the optician does all the technical things they need to and talks about the best lenses for you. They then write up your contact lens prescription.
What I have found is that they have given me a small quantity of lenses, a strip of 6 or 8, to try over the next couple of weeks. I have then had the option of calling in again to buy a couple of boxes to last me a month or longer, as I don't wear them every day.
What you could do when things are back to normal is ask to have a contact lens appointment, so that you have a prescription. If you can get a small strip of sample lenses, you can give them a try for a day. If they are comfortable, you could tell your parents that you have some sample lenses and that they work really well for you.
They might agree to help you buy a couple of boxes to last you a few months, which you can then wear for special occasions.
