Specialist medical fields

Just wondering, is there any way of being able to study a specialist medical field like cardiology or neurology without having to do a medical degree first?

Hi @thunder_sheep ,

Because of the words in bold in your Q, which might suggest that you are not necessarily hoping to practice clinical cardiology (e.g.) as a doctor, then there is an option that you could pursue partly as an academic exercise, but also possibly to develop a career e.g. in the pharmaceutical industry or in medical writing. This option is an MSc in Cardiology, which is offered by some unis in UK and abroad, and which gives some insight into cardiac physiology, pathology and theoretical knowledge of the basic clinical features of some cardiac diseases.

If this is something you might consider, then please look at the syllabus details at particular unis. You will need a good undergraduate degree in a relevant biological subject as a prerequisite.

Just to cheer people up in the current crisis: if you wish to assist your colleagues who supply raw material for winter garments (sorry!!), then the only option is to become a veterinary surgeon lol! :colondollar:
