Transfering from one Sainsbury's to another for uni!

hey guys, well ive just put in my transfer form to move to brighton sainsbury's...however ive been hearing that the transfer system is really unreliable and have heard of peoples pay being messed up etc etc.

im currently a checkout supervisor, i was going to apply for CTS...but seeing as i would be leaving soon, i was told there would be no point...anyways, when transfering, apparently they just place you on whatever department that store has vacancies....NOOoooOOO lol....i didnt get promoted to just be PLONKED BACK as a checkout boi again! lol....or even worse *que horror music*...GROCERY!!!.

has anybody had any experience in transfering before?...if so, was there any problems?
This is the reason why I'm not transferring, I don't want to be shoved on any department, I hate being on the shopfloor.

Most of the people I work with who are going to uni are just working when they come home, there is just one who has a dual contract. I've heard the same as you in regards to problems that's also why I haven't done a transfer.

hmm well i always had doubts about transferring, ideally i just wanted a secure job to go to uni with, i didnt want to get caught up with the masses of students brawling to find a job!.

my plan was to already have a job for when i get over there and then find another job once im out there...ive been looking into working in places like carphone warehouse and 02 etc...some of my friends LITERALLY come home with DOUBLE their wages in just COMMISION!...plus ive been at sainsbury's for 2 YEARS NOW and its starting to get to me! lol...the one i work in is the biggest in the whole company...41 checkouts PLUS 16 self scans...although i like the busyness and the hustle and bustle...i dont think i would like working in a much smaller store...spose i better get job hunting then shouldnt i lol

God! You would hate it at our store, we have 12 checkouts, no self service ones and two kiosk tills, there's 8 aisles lol! It does get really busy though. We are a seasonal store, so we rely on holidaymakers and have been non stop busy since mid July.

I'd love to work in a big one though, I'm sick of Sainsbury's as well, I've been there just over a year and can't wait to have a break when I go to uni.

Again this is why I didnt really want to transfer, i'm in the same position as you, im a checkout supervisor but ive just applied to be a CTS, luckily a relatively local uni does the perfect course for me so im lucky i can keep my job, I have heard stories exactly like that before, because being a runner or csd is a position of priviledge rather than a contracted job then you run the risk of always being chucked on a checkout (hence why im going for a cts job), and if you were transferred then you would most likely be on a till (although I knew someone who continued being a runner at both stores). It really depends whether you get lucky.

urgh!...personally i think a supervisor should have its own contracted role rather than just a privaleged position...authorising transactions, doing observations, doing pod counts and pick ups!!?....i know i sound really picky and pompous...but i actually dont think i can handle being downgraded to just sitting on checkouts!...i was doing that for a year before i became supervisor and HATED IT.

Yeah, I agree hence the reason, although only being a runner for a couple of months, ive gone for a cts job. I hate sitting on a checkout now, i havent been on one properly in over a year. I did 4 months when i first started and the rest of those 18 months ive spent on csd or running. Of course I jump on if it gets busy but im eager to get off.

However, you have to think what you will be doing if you quit and get a new job, I dont think you will jump straight into a supervisory role if you did that so what I would do in your position is transfer to the other store (you wont be on grocery because if the store your going to is anything like mine checkout will grab you), tell them as soon as you go down to do your first checkout shift that your kiosk, csd, supervisor trained. They wont let you do your current job straight away but i reckon you would only be on a till for a few weeks until they need you somewhere else.

Wow this was aages ago! lol.
The transfer went completely fine, The checkout Manager was short of supervisors so she immediately made me a runner from the word go!.
I had a few problems when transfering back for x-mas and other holidays, for some reason the Personnel departments CANNOT communicate with eachother!, and they didnt send over the hours that i had done, consequently i didnt get paid which messed me up pretty bad!. My advice (when transfering back) is to keep a record of all the hours you have done and go to personnel everyweek with this information!.
I actually began to really like the store, even though it was considerably smaller than my other store, it was just soo much more 'team like', everyone knew eachother and everyone was generally just much nicer!.
I settled in great and eventually ended up just being in the customer service desk.

I have left Sainsburys now (4 years of service :O) as i am now working full time as part of my university Placement. I suppose i will miss it, especially all the friends i made whilst there!.

good luck to anyone transfering

Hi, I know this was ages ago for you but you're the only person I've found who had a dual store contract with Sainsbury's. I've managed to get one too and I'd like to know more about the trouble you had getting paid?

I spoke to a CTS today and though she wasn't too sure she said that my payslips would still be at my old 'real' store and they'll be dealing with me getting paid - is that true? The last thing I'll need this year is not getting paid! Also, when you moved did your pay band go lower? I'm currenty at two for my real store but will I be in band 1 for my new one?

Cheers!

This.
I know mcdonalds is a bit different but people from the mcdonalds that i work at who are at uni chose to just work at ours in the holidays and not transfer to another one while they are at uni. Someone from my mcdonalds once told me that if you transferred to another restaurant that is owned by the samefranchisee then you are ok and are in the same position as before (crew trainer etc) but if you went to another then you go back down to being a crew member.

I work in a fairly small sainsburys on produce. I want to get a dual store contract at wherever I go to uni in 2012 and I don't mind if I go to a big store or small store and whatever department. I think its great pay for our age. Anyway I wanted to know what happens with holidays? Coz we have far more than six weeks off uni a year, so will they make us book our uni holidays off? or do we just do our hours back home?
I know this is from a while ago. But I was just wondering if anyone know how go get a transfer or dual store for sainsbury's? Do I need to speak to HR? I'm going uni in September and want see if I can keep my job.
Are the transfer interview hard
I am currently working at a Sainsbury’s at uni however want to go home for the summer holidays, how would I go about making this happen
How do I get a transfera to another store at sainsburys what do I have to do ?
