How long you been there?

On and off, three years and a bit.

What about when I rail against it? :p:

I'd be worried if you didn't rail against it.

I'm not quite sure what to say to that.

Well, I just got the impression that you don't particularly like the place out of principle...:dontknow:

Still makes me sound like a ******** though :frown:

Sorry, then. That wasn't my intention, obviously.
All I meant to say was that when I'm on GOGSoc, I almost feel bad for liking Oxford, because just about everybody else here seems to dislike it.:s-smilie:

You shouldn't. GOGSoc is supposed to be a place we can all have our likes and dislikes without people shooting them down. We're not schoolkids/undergrads!

Reply 5987

Well I mean I don't dislike it. I just consider it to be inferior.

Sorry to hear about your woes with MAs. It's such a shame that things have worked out how they have done, because you were both looking forward to them so much!!

Think that's the sucky part - it's not living up to the excitement that I thought it would :o: :frown:

IlexAquifolium
Mine's utterly, utterly **** too, if that makes you feel any better. I'm really depressed, have no motivation, and can't seem to find the will to get out of bed.

Awww no, didn't realise yours was bad too :frown: MAs sodding suck  I like you, like the university as a whole, just not the course or the department tbh (well some bits are ok). Think whoever said it (possibly the_alba) that for those people know who what they want to do for a PhD, then the MA is just something you have to grin and bare. I'm fed up of having to read stuff that doesn't bare any relation to my research area now, especially when it's for a compulsory course

I don't think I've got a hope in hell of funding with a 2:1 anyway, but having to have the MA is just making the process worse. Grrdddle

Well, actually I always feel a bit bad when alba and OH are railing against Oxford, because I rather liked it here - I still do, as a matter of fact.:o:

Moi aussi ("me too", unFrench mods!), I like the place. Not so keen on some of the people. I'm not referring to any OxGOGs, obviously, but there were a lot of tosspots to balance against the pretty buildings and intellectual liberation (personal liberation, I mean, I know that wasn't the case for all)

I tried lamb with pesto t'other day, a combo I didn't ever think would work, and it was surprisingly edible. Just a thought.

To be fair, one can blame most things on sociologists.

Never a truer word said.

In reference to MAs, let me join the chorus. I still haven't started my bloody dissertation, 'coz I'm preparing and reading for essays. And I'm claiming on my Ox application that I'm gonna get a distinction for this ****** thing, and it'll be a miracle if I do, but I have to put that, 'coz Ox don't have the option of merit and pass just looks naff.

I've not even thought about mine tbh. Next term looks even worse essay & deadline wise. Am tempted to just treat April to August as my full time dissertation period. It's only worth a quarter of my final mark too!

Well, but if you get an offer, it won't be conditional on your getting a distinction, though, will it?:dontknow: So on that account, it won't really matter (although it will when it comes to funding, I suppose).

Reply 5994

I need to do at least an outline, 'coz my supervisor is going on leave next term. :frown:

Next term is not too bad with essays. Languages ftw.

Hmm, this is true. I don't know, pass just seems too naff, and I know (hopefully!) I'll get a merit, if only for my own personal pride.

blah blah! Most people going on to do doctorates will only (!) have a 2:1.

Bet yours is higher than mine. I'm literally hanging onto a 2.i through the skin of my teeth.

I should probably say bye to academia already. :p:
