People have posted some skills but it would also help you to decide whether or not working in a 'caring profession' is what you want to do. I have the utmost respect for people who can do it but my months working in 2 different care homes and my experience of my mother being in one made me realise:

  1. That I would never get a permanent job in this or a related industry
  2. That, if I have the mental capacity to avoid it, I was never going to stay in one. I have it lodged with my medical records that I want no intervention to keep me alive if I lose mental capacity. I have every intention of killing myself at the first sign of dementia or if I become too disabled to live independently. (It's all planned). Life in a care home seems totally pointless and a waste of everyone's time.
It is well worth spending time in one to help you make some life choices. (Had 4 kids, perfectly happy looking after their needs but they gradually get more competent).
