All three of my children went to grammar school and have all done well

It is not that straightforward. There are good examples of both type of school as there are bad. They are both state, it is just that grammars are selective state schools.
There is no concept of sympathy- contextual offers are school/area based.

The short answer is no. Your qualifications will have the same worth wherever they're obtained.

On a tangential note - the distinction between state/grammar in this way is unfair anyway imo - should always be based on more specific metrics. There are some underfunded average-performing grammars while there are some state schools that put a lot of private schools to shame.
