Hi everyone,
Please can someone help me understand why the electronic config of Mg2^+ is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2?

I did a question (see pic) where I selected option B, because I thought that the 2+ ion means 10 electrons which matched option B's electron config but the right answer is C.. please can someone help explain.
Thanks in advance!

Anyone who says otherwise has made a mistake.
