Psychology University of Manchester.Hard to get into?

well i just messed up my AS year by going abroad and failing(also walking out the exam)....now theyre saying i cant pick ASs as priority is given to the recent school leavers...meaning that i dont have a college to go to...so this year im thinking of carrying on with my A2 psychology(the only one i passed in) and picking up AS urdu, religion ethics and philosophy and english language and literature...AS urdu i hope to do in one year so by the end of june 09 ill have 2 A levels and 2 AS levels and i really want to apply to university (manchester is my dream but i dont think ill get in :frown: ) my college want me to go back to AS and do another 2 years but im already 18 ill be 19 this year and want to go uni in sept 09..i looked on the website for manchester and for psychology they want

'A level: Grades AAB. We may accept grades ABB if two science-based subjects are offered (Maths, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.) General Studies is welcomed but not included as part of the standard offer. Two AS-levels of equivalent grades accepted in place of one A-level.'

Would i be considered?what shall i tell my college?that i hope to apply for uni this year with 2 a levels (one which i may do from home) and the others are 2 AS LEVELS?

Tbh I really doubt you would get into Manchester (or any other 'good' uni) with less than 3 full A-levels - they all work on grades rather than UCAS points.
I'd just resit the whole year if you are determined to get into Manchester. Also, you are looking at an AAB offer- if you have only just passed psychology (which i'm not sure what grade you got because you didn't say) then you will find it very hard to get an A/B overall.

just passed psychology means got a C

so why does it say 'Two AS-levels of equivalent grades accepted in place of one A-level.'

If you just got a C (180/300) you would need 300/300 in the second year just to meet the A grade boundary for A2, or 240/300 for a B. I really would re-sit the whole year if I were in your position, it will be hard to get the required grades and even then you will not have the full 3 a-levels they specifically ask for :frown:
Edit: Oh, never read that part that 2 AS's are acceptable in place of an A2! Well in that case you would need a B minimum in Psychology, an A in your other A2 and 2 A's in your AS?

so shall i bother?is there any hope?
Psychology is one of the highest applied for courses at higher education. Perhaps you should look at some institutions with lower entry requirements?

my friend had a conditional offer for manchester to do psychology this year for AAB and she only got BBB and still got in!!! i dont know if thats just because she already had the place and it might be hard to get a conditional place if ur not estimated AAB

It would be quite hard to get a B in psychology, but it is do-able. You will definately need to get A's in all 3 of your other subjects though, and I dont know what Manchester are like for making offers as the course is extremely popular! After doing all this you may still not get an offer from them :frown:
Personally I would start again and go down the 3 A-level route, i'm not sure what other universities are like for accepting less than 3 a-levels so if you end up being rejected by Manchester you will probably be limited to where else you can apply.
I also know someone who got into Manchester with three B's for Psychology (annoying as I thought I would have no chance get in so didn't bother applying)
Anyone?
