take something for every weather you can imagine except for arctic temperatures.

Jeans are ok in hot weather generally, that's what they were developed for in the first place really. But most likely you'll rather be wearing denim shorts.

remember that air conditioning in malls and such like will make you freeze your tits off if you don't have a light jumper of jacket. Same goes for walking on deck of the boat at night.

Wind might also bit a bit of an issues, so think of a few tied back hairstyles just in case. Will also keep back sweat off your hair if you have it up.

try not to pack heavy items of clothes, because a) you're going on a long cruise and need lots of clothes as you won't have a washing machine and b) it'll just be too annoying to get into them. Lots of thin layers if you want to get warmer is better, as those thin clothes are good for the day too.

Those see-through cardigans in turquoise netting? unsuitable as hell for the uk really, but great to keep the sun off your shoulders and make you feel slightly more dessed at the pool side bar.

I've never been on a cruise, but I'm imagining, hahaha, so don't take my words as gold (although I really have heared stories of freezing air con in hot countries)

With regards to nightwear how about a cami and shorts set? They look so cute :yep:

Beachwear, maybe something to cover up like one of these..

    http://www.lasenza.co.uk/beach/cover...8_ls_21-052_cc

Also some basic flip flops, these are quite pretty: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/...7736_526343_-1

Normal clothes wise, try and get some versatile pieces that can be dressed up or dressed down really. Like a top you could wear with cropped jeans or whatever, but could also be dressed up with a skirt.

How about something like this? http://www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp...2800&langId=-1

Don't forget something like this to keep your jewellery secure: http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/pr...3182030&page=1

Also, get some nice bags! Evening bags, beach bags etc.

    Have fun! *is jealous*
i love the blue pjama set here: http://www.joulesclothing.com/produc...r/E_SKIMPY.htm

accessorize have some nice kaftan dresses. not so much on the website but in the shops, i got a gorgous turquoise one with zigzag skilver thread around the top for my birthday.
And theyre not too long either - above knee length

ooh and i like this monsoon one: http://www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/32311675

    I would take:
    Swimming cossie/bikini x 3
    Sarong/wrap x 2
    Flip-flops for by the pool

Gym stuff (T-shirt, jazz pants or whatever they're called, trainers, pair of those little socks that come up to your ankles)

2-3 pairs of shorts - one denim pair, one pale coloured pair (sand coloured or white if they're not see-through!)

1 or 2 summer skirts (definitely one long one in case you're visiting anywhere that you need a long skirt, like a temple or something?)

5 or 6 little strappy tops in white/black/colours that go with the skirts and shorts.

2-3 summer dresses - one smart one and one more casual one

a couple of little wrap cardigan/shrug things

5-6 T-shirts - again, in colours that go with the shorts/skirts

    1 pair of jeans

1 or 2 smart tops that go with the jeans for evening wear

1 pair of pretty strappy sandals for a formal dinner

1 pair of shoes/sandals that you can go anywhere in and that go with most of your stuff

a pashmina/huge scarf that you can throw into your bag so that you have a wrap if it's cold and an instant cover-up if you need to cover your shoulders if you're visiting somewhere that insists on that, like a cathedral or something,.

I would travel in, say, jeans, a black t-shirt, a smart sand coloured jacket and ballet flats. But that's just me.

Cropped pants? Also, what kind of skirts? I like mine just bellow the knee. Can you show me some examples?

Yea, I wore crops - mainly to save my legs from the bites.
This is one outfit I wore:

    and this one:

As for skirts, I went for the linen type as they are cooler, for example I wore this:

Ahhh yes. I'll deffo be going to the gym. Good call. I'll take my lightweight Nike Rifts.
    I wore these trainers:

Do you have any sandals pics? :o: I'm terrible at choosing suitable sandals - particularly for this climate.
    I wore these sandals:

I also wore these once for my bday meal out with this dress:

I also wore these slippers around the house/chilling out in:

Because I found them comfy, I got another 3 pairs in different colours :o: lol

I think the cruise ship will have a hairdryer. Would be worth checking though.

Yea you'll be alright, I wouldn't stress too much about the hairdryer, I took mine because my g/parents don't have one. Besides which, it didn't work that well anyway because Jamaica is a 110v, whereas Britain is 240v, so I only got half the heat!

Yeah same here. I'm not a fan of swimming caps. Looks like its my only choice though

So some little shorts and vest sets? I have some of those.

Yep fair few tops and shorts, different summery colours I wore.

As for swimwear, I went for hotpants and bikini top, like this:

Holy crap! I would love that! :woo:

Deffo rep coming your way if you do that chick!

Hope that helps, I can't find half the stuff I wore, but that is just a lil helping hand and jist as to what I wore in Jamaica. Cant find any of my dresses though at the moment, but when I do - I'll upload.

EDIT: Ooooo I took one jumper/hoody, which was this one:

Apologies that my clothes are crushed . . :o: lol

    Royal Carribbean.

They said dress as formal or as informal as you like. So anything goes really. I personally tend to lean towards the former.

I'm crapping my pants about this cruise. It's just mum and me. Girls only! :yep:
Haha, I've been on this cruise!!! (well, it was 3 days longer, but it's basically the same!) Went last Christmas Was brill. & I've been on a few more as well

Anyways, you will probs have two formal nights as it's an 8 day cruise, so bring a couple of dresses as everyone tends to go all out on these days (& you'll be forced into having about 50 bajillion professional photographs in front of many photograph backdrops that your mum will undoubtedly end up buying!) Any nice dress will do tbh, but just to warn you, most of our age group tend to get back dressed into their comfy clothes straight after dinner & head to the club which is aged 18 & over (Many-a-good time spent in there, I have to say :p: ) So I recommend you take a couple of pairs of jeans or casual pants, along with some vest tops.

The jeans also come in handy for casual nights which you have quite a few of, although Royal Caribbean tend to not like the casual look you & I would probs call 'casual', hence dress them up with a nice top & heels (although be careful walking down the corridors if the sea gets choppy - been there, done that, killed my ankle!) I also wore tailored shorts on these nights, even though they say shorts aren't allowed, but I think that's just for guys... Well, they didn't pull me up on it anyways! Not denim ones though. Deffo no no.

Oh, and you'll also have smart-casual nights. Probably a couple. These are the weird ones, cause I didn't know what to pack beforehand at all! All the men wear their suits with ties (unlike on formal nights where they wore dinner suits - such a good sight to see, especially with all the lovelyyyy looking men, trust me haha) so basically, just wear a nice skirt & top & you'll be fine. Or a dress that isn't TOO formal that it could be mixed up with being one for the formal night.

Let me know if you want any advice on some of your outfits & stuff for these diff nights

During the day, just have the usual - shorts, vest tops, flip flops, bikinis etc. It's just the same as a normal hol. I recommend taking a big bag though to carry all your stuff in for round the pool, 'cause there's millions of stairs (helps you burn off all the awesome food you will be constantly eating! haha) & it's quite hard dragging towels/books/ipod/suntan cream etc under your arms!

Does your ship have an ice skating rink? (which ship is it btw?) If it does, you have to wear long pants, so your jeans will come in handy for that as well! Oooh, and a jumper as it's FREEZING in there! Also, your hoodie will come in handy for when the sun goes down & you fancy a walk round the topdeck (deff recommend it - it's so peaceful & just wow)

For when you board the ship, wear some linen pants or something cause you'll be herded about anywhere & everywhere, and so you need something comfy but also cool :p:

    You'll have a FAB time!

If you need any other help, just quote me back

Oh, do you have the itinerary for the cruise? i'm going on a royal caribbean cruise next week and we have 2 formal nights, which means like very formal dresses or something, two semi formal nights which are like nice dresses/trousers and blouses, and 2 informal nights. These are all though if you are going to sit in the main dining hall for dinner, but if you just want to go to the deck and eat anything else then you can wear what you want. But check the details cos you might HAVE to take some formal clothes, I'm packing two sets and a few dresses and in the day time I'm wearing t shirts, loose tops and shorts and sandals.

Hey Tufts - I live in the hotness for 1/3 of the year -----

You'll deffo want some decent PJs - I sleep in just an A&F PJ top and knickers cos it's too hot for much else

Plenty of flip flops - Birkenstocks fulfil this criteria but are so much more comfy for walking around in. Stuff like Havianas for the pool.

Treat yourself to some new gym kit - Nike do have some lush stuff in at the moment, especially in the USA.

I wouldn't go overboard with cardies/hoodies as you'll only need them for the evening if it's chilly.

Other than that I've never been on a cruise and have no desire to (personal preference!) and so can't help with the rest

I went on the Explorer of the Seas from New York all the way round the Caribbean over Xmas & New year The celebrations were brill - def recommend going over that period!
Were you old enough to go in the club bit?? Was called 'The Chamber' on the Explorer! Only bad thing is that you can't drink until you're 21 if you're sailing round the Caribbean

Wow thanks for all your info. Do you have any examples of suitable cocktail dresses? I don't own any :o:

    (Original post by jodie_lee)
You probably have a pretty good idea by now!

I went to Barbados last year, and Jamaica the year before...the hotel in Barbados was slightly more formal, but it's more of an issue for men (trousers, shirts, etc.).

Us girlies can just wear whatever we want, so as many evening outfits as you want, you may want like one for every night if you have dress, or double up with skirts and tops. Pretty little cami's and nice flowy skirts are nice, as it can still be clammy in the evening. As other people have suggested, jewellery, bags, accessories for the evening, and yeah, maybe take costume type jewellery rather than really expensive stuff. If not, I'm sure you'll be fine whatever, but just an idea.

Lots of bikinis, obv and flip flops, sarongs/beach dresses/skirts.

For excursions, you will want light clothes, like little skirts and tops, maybe a bit more covered up than just around the pool to protect your modesty! Comfy shoes would probably also help if you are going to be walking around for a long time.
Comfy shoes eh? Do they exist? :p:

I'm excited about this cruise - but also a tad scared :o:

I was a bit apprehensive before going on my first cruise cause I thought it would be full of old people, but there's LOADS of people our age! Granted there is a few old people, but you never see them as they're always in the casino & stuff :p:
On RCI ships, there's mainly Americans so you tend to pick up on their laid back attitudes and stuff, although there are quite a few British alongside other nationalities. I met people from all over the world!
There are singles that go on them... but you never seem to notice them if they are! Oh, and obviously there's a few familes & such. It's basically just a normal hotel holiday... on water lol.

    Ok, dresses...
On formal nights, I tended to wear stuff like:

Size: 39.3 KB

    &

    Name: image1xl1.jpg
Views: 136

You'll get people who go all out & wear their prom dresses (mainly Americans, I have to say) but I went for the simple classy look sorta thing & a lot of others had to, so don't be intimidated by those who dress up to the nines!

    Linen pants:

Okay, well obviously you'll need quite a few evening outfits - you seem to dress really girly and pretty anyway so that will be no problem for you!! Dresses, pretty skirts etc. And make sure you take cardis, it can get chilly under the air conditioning.

Maybe just take like one pair of jeans, just in case. But cropped jeans/denim shorts are faab for the hot weather and you can dress them up (pretty top/cami type thing and nice shoes) or down.

Here you go, day dresses Id go for something like - http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/st...4272&langId=-1 Jersey dresses are great for daytime, and you can even wear them with shorts if you dont fancy wearing a dress!

Evening would be like this I guess - http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/st...9798&langId=-1 (Excuse my laziness of just sticking to the topshop site!) But really, Ive seen a few of your dresses and they're nice and suitable for evening wear on a cruise!

There are loads of products you can buy to protect your hair from sea-salt, it may be a good idea to search for .x.Jen.x.'s thread, I remember she made one a few months ago asking sort of the same questions you are!!

Obviously you'll need bikinis and swimming stuff, maybe some kaftans to cover up if you wish and just some cheapo shorts to stick over the top when you're on the beach or around the pool! Errrrrrrrrm, I dont kno, theres so much stuff you could need and I dont really know what you have already! Do you want to dress up or down during the day? ahhh dilemmas!
    Enjoy your rep

If you need any other help, just quote me back
Should the travel agents have told me about these different nights in advance? I dont feel that they have been very thorough with us. I suspect we had a trainee when we booked.

I like to dress up :^_^: Although as prom-style dresses are quite heavy I don't think my luggage quota would allow for it

I'm not a fan of pants in any form, so wearing some will seem 'meh' to me. But if you've gotta, you've gotta I guess.
Well, you don't have to wear pants if you don't want! Skirts are just as nice I prefer skirts actually, but I found that linen pants were so comfy when wandering around for a whole day exploring
