A lot of people have a problem with older guys dating a 16 year old so why isn’t the age of consent 18?

No.
I believe the usual age of sexual consent is fine.
If one of the people in the relationship is in a position of power or authority and the other person is 16 or 17, the age of sexual consent is 18.

Because consensual sex is good for you, unlike drinking

Yes 100%. I don't get it when people say it's okay for someone above the age of 18 to date a 16 year old. It's just wrong.

Yet, you have to be 18 years old to marry and vote.

Anyone over 18 that wants to have sex with a 16 year old is sick in the head, and the law should reflect that by making it illegal.

I'm getting the word... nonce.

As for the OP, the current laws are fine. Yes, it is ****ed up for a 60 year old man to date a 16 year old girl, but it's also ****ed up for him to date a 20 year old girl. Should we ban that from happening?
Very good point raised there i think. Xx

You can make the AoC whatever you want, teenagers will still have sex given the opportunity. I seriously doubt if you increased the U.K. AoC to 18, you’d suddenly get a massive influx of 16-17 year olds going abstinent.

Instead more attention should be placed into educating them about socially acceptable romantic relationships and when you’re likely to be getting taken advantage of.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over what is legal/socially acceptable. If raising the age to 18 clears things up, why not.

My opinion is that the age of the other person is relevant. I would have the age of consent generally as 18, with a 16 or 17 year old able to consent with someone who is also 16, 17 or perhaps 18.

I would also end marriage for anyone under 18, as this would be a small step towards reducing forced marriages.
