Want to buy a Scooter for Uni...but...

I wanted to buy a scooter to commute in my Uni (It takes me 1/2 hour to go the my School :s-smilie: )For the moment i just walked to my Faculty.

I've the money(finally  ), willing to learn and get a license, but...the only problem is my family's approval. Definitely my mom will have an instant hate/worry/disapprove when i even mentioned the word 'motor' (my dad died because of a motor accident). My siblings would give me an hour (immediate disapprove)lecture if i asked them their opinion/advice :s-smilie:

I know i can just make my own decision but it seems like 'motorcycle' is a sensitive issue with my family.

The reason i want to buy one is because i can actually reduce the time to go back and forth from my college to the faculty. And if i forget something, i can just scoot and go take it immediately. I've a car license but i don't think i can afford even the cheapest car :o: Besides the scooter is just for Uni.

One last thing that really motivates me more to buy a scooter is that, each time my soccer practice finishes all of the teams will go back with their bikes(the field is far from our college) I know i can just hitch a ride with them but i kindda feel somewhat embarrassed with my shirt and shorts being dirty and all and hitching a ride with them..

well i don't know..Of course the scooter is for Uni but for sure i'm going to tak e it back to the house or buy groceries, feel up the gas-which is outside uni use already-and of course this will be my family main concern...and of course argument :s-smilie:

Any advice...

well, if you really need it than you really need it :p:

But you do want and try to be sensitive with your family's concerns when you tell them about it. Listen to them, don't argue them  They'll learn to live w/ it.

Oh, and drive safe

yeah i'm trying as hard as i can. well i don't know how to brake it to her. i can handle my bros disapproval but i do really care about my moms one. I know she has been through a lot since the accident, so i just don't want to make her feel upset or anything..

well, you're going to have to balance b/w your need of the scooter and your desire to keep to your moms wishes

And you only waited 7 minutes for a reply :p:
Your mum is just scared espically with what happened to your dad. Tell her your send her a text message or give her call, when you arrive at your destintion, until she knows your safe enough.

Look at it from this view, the man of her children and the love of her dad died and she views them as dangerous.

Talk to her, and offer her a small ride, around the area and she might learn to see your a compendant rider. and as Lithium said, balance the wishes with you and your mum needs.

Take some extra lessons at the driving centre and invite your mum to watch you as well.

The only person who knows whether your family's opinion will have a big enough impact on your decision to change it is you. :P It seems like you really want it and if you believe it to be safe then there you go.

Why do you need to tell your family, out of interest? Do you still live at home?
Despite the fact I do not need my parents permission for anything, I seek it to keep family peace.

The system I've worked out is to ask either my fathers or my sisters opinion. They all usually don't care and as soon as they don't care my mother stops worrying about a particular plan of action and moves on.
Buy a micro scooter, then bust a few moves out on the way to uni, maybe one day you'll get as good as me and my mates: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk7xSK2huIs
I'm the one in the white tee.

that's why i created this thread lol

i don't want to be the bad apple in the house. If i got home, i just want piece, quite and enjoy my happy moments with my family  . If i did something against their approval, well no fun then if i went back to the house and see them starring at the thing that they dislike..

owh well maybe i just have to find the right moment. Lol this morning my mom asked me what do i want for breakfast, in my mind: "how about a peace of Scooter" lol
Buy a bike.
How safe are scooters?
