Why do people say ‘should of’ instead of ‘should have’Watch
For example, “I really should of asked first” instead of “I really should have asked first”
It just really bugs me sometimes
(2) One explanation is that the "H" in have was not pronounced. So "should have" is pronounced by some as "should'ave" and eventually it bacame "should'of" - which is similar in sound but of course it's spelt entirely different.
- Should of
- Should have
Okay that didnt prove anything but try it out
almost certainly owing to the contraction 'would've'
Another thing that miffs me is 'why' instead of 'while', which I think is limited to just a couple of towns.
