It depends what you learn from it and how you use it in your personal statement. The Open University courses wont boost your personal statement nor your application but if you learn something from it or it made you want to do the course you want to apply for, it will make your personal statement more personal to you, which is a good thing to do for it. If you can't be bothered with doing them, dont do them. I tried to do a law mooc and I just couldnt be bothered but I have other things I like doing I can put in my personal statement, which you will too since there is so many things to do for your course.

I imagine it'd mostly be impressive (but not at all expected) to have on top of the required grades for anything related to Maths. That said, I certainly wouldn't go out of your way to do an OU course unless you're a mature student who's already finished school and has their grades.

I'm considering taking Open University courses in order to boost my personal statement/uni application. Is that a good idea? Will it be worth the time and effort to complete them?

Sounds good, though is it free? I don't think the cost (of what I think it is from last google) is worth it for a PS that could be padded out with goodness from free reading round the subject
