I did Thomas hardy for my English a level coursework so not too sure if this is any help to you but, Thomas Hardy’s poems always seem to have light words but with a heavy impact. A wife in London looks at death and loss and brings in the idea of anti-war, And the idea of the war in a domestic setting so it resonates with the reader. But there are ironic notes throughout the poem. Idk if this was any help?
