VM612 – Coronavirus in the Meat Industry Motion 2020 (Amended), Saracen's Fez MP
This House:–

(1) notes that a number of coronavirus outbreaks have recently taken place in meat-processing plants, including 2 Sisters in Wales and Tönnies in Germany.

(2) notes that this is likely caused by a combination of necessary environmental factors, such as the fact that such plants are cold and damp, and poor working conditions that can be rectified.

(3) calls upon the Government to consider whether specific steps need to be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus in cold, damp working environments, such as increased employee testing.

(4) calls upon the Government to ensure that existing regulations regarding working conditions are being observed, and consider whether stronger regulation may be needed.

(5) recognises that the need to improve standards in the meat industry may lead to increases in the price of meat for consumers, and that this may be a necessary trade-off to ensure standards are upheld.

Changes for DivisionPoint (5) has been amended to clarify the initial intention, namely that it may be necessary to pay more for meat to ensure working conditions are appropriate.

Isn't it funny how the "clarification" of 5 is completely changing it....

Probably because the author realised (and made clear in the debate, at least to my reading) that the original wording did not come across as intended.

That you think it's been changed shows why a clarification was required.

Aye, I think the risk of dangerous meat is a price to pay in itself.

I voted in support of this bill.
And anybody that looks at the poll can see that...

As a FYI, this doesn't count for the activity review if you are thinking this is a way to pad activity
