Soton nightlife

Is it any good? I'm more interested int he 'mainstream' scene, chain pubs etc (none of this 'alternative'/gigs rubbish! :biggrin:

) Anyone else off to visit the uni 2moro? I am!!! Where's good to go fro lunch?

aw i wish i was going to! just been last week, loved it! i no one good place to go..jesters! (bit rubbish..but VERY cheap!!!) it seems to be the place soton students go to..often!

Jesters is monday and friday night entertainment..it's :smile:

, tiny, usually 1 in 1 out by about 8.30pm but dirt cheap!

Other good student places, Academy, Ikon/Diva, Hotshots, Jumpin Jaks (the last 3 are in leisure world..a big shed which also has some nice restaurants and an Odeon cinema). Lots of chain pubs..Wetherspoons, a Yates, Hogs Head etc along above bar street. There is also a Flares and The Square.

The Uni has its own nightclub "the cube" which has theme nights, and a regular wednesday and friday night club session. It holds xmas parties, halloween parties etc. And is pretty good and cheap, and you can walk home!

Guess I'd better get myself down to Jesters! Where else is cheap and a guaranteed good night out???? What's the Joiners like I've heard mixed opinions! That area is quite close to halls isn't it?

I am considering choosing Soton as my first choice.
I've visited a friend informally (I.e not a open day) twice, went to Icon/Diva in early 04 and had a great time. When I visited later in the year didn't go out on the town but went to a house party which was bit weird (Pikeys).
The only thing that worries me is that Soton may not be large enough for me, I want a wide range of clubs and bars. I've lived in Exeter all my life, its such a small city and I really do wanna experience a place where you don't always bump into someone you know on a night out.
The shopping centre is certainly big enough to meet my wants, but is there a wide range of clubs/bars to keep you occupied? Certainly looking for some where with a better night life then Exeter.

i dunno the whole Ikon n Diva/ leisure world area have a bit of a rep as being townie hangouts with 14yr old girld attempeting to look 20. For a good nite out in soton id say 'london road' which has a giddy bridge and varsity, which both have cheap drinks... then onto a place called the Rhino or Acadamy

Ikon/Diva is a bit chav..but hotshots and jumpin jaks are not so bad and the town centre is just like most other cities really..there is enough variety and cabs/buses are good for getting home.

ikon and diva is great, theres bambuu bar too there now which is known as a celeb bar, dont think there are many has a VIP part tho is expensive but good. Jumpin Jaks plays a lot of cheese, while ikon/diva dont so much. Leisure World is the best!!

I'm worried that there won't be enough nightlife to keep me occupied (coming from London). It may come down to me choosing between Soton and Bristol, and while I prefer the course at Soton, I can see Bristol having much better night life. Are there many big chain pubs in Soton, Walkabout, Yates's etc?
