Is anyone a nurse in the Royal Navy? I’m looking into it but I have a few questions so would like answers straight from people who experience it everyday.

Do you work in uk NHS hospitals or is it just on ship and in different countries and war zones?

What roles do you play as a na nurse what are you responsible for?

What do you enjoy the most?

What countries have you visited as a nurse?

There are nurses on some ships; the new carriers have state of the art medical facilities and they have nurses. When RFA Argus is deployed (a hospital ship) in a crisis situation, she carries more nurses - RFA Argus went to Sierra Leone to give medical care to people affected by the Ebola epidemic, for instance.

Other nurses work on naval bases in the medical centres.

The majority of Royal Navy nurses, however, are probably to be found in Ministry of Defence Hospital Units. These are units which are within NHS hospitals - the three in which you are most likely to find Naval Nurses are:

Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth
Derriford Hospital, Plymouth
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Just a quick tip, make sure you have the educational qualifications the Navy specifies for entry as a Naval Nurse (Student).
