Becoming a doctor... in Canada?

Hi

I've been thinking a lot recently and sort of want to move to Canada at some point in my life. Now I know this may seem far-fetched but I was wondering-

If I go to medical school in the UK and become a doctor, can I then move to Canada and work as a doctor there? Will I have to go to a Canadian university and do extra years? Etc. How would the process work? Oh, and could I specialise in Canada after getting the MBBS in the UK?

Or would I be better off just going straight to a Canadian university? I'm applying this year after all - but that would be so expensive I don't know how I'd manage.

Responses are appreciated

The BMA website has good information on stuff like this. I was going to link the page but the website seems to be down. I’d check it out later though. Just type something like “BMA Canada” into Google.

I think being accepted for medical training in Canada is considerably more difficult compared with moving there once you have a UK CCT (i.e. you are a consultant or GP). The post-CCT route is much more common and established.

Once the BMA website is back up, check this link:

Yes.

Not as far as I'm aware

I think it would be more straightforward to go to university in the UK in all honesty (assuming you're not a Canadian citizen).

Alright, thanks for this!
I'll read the articles now
If you have Canadian citizenship aim to go to Canada after med school. If not, aim to go to Canada after obtaining CCT.
