Advice on haircut [mens]

I've been going to the same barber for about 2-3 years now, my hairstyle looks good up until 4 weeks after. I want it to last longer though, and I've noticed that after a month it looks a bit like a mushroom. My haircut is usually 1 on the sides, and then a scissor cut on the top and back (V on the back) with the front swayed to one side. Guys, do you advise this for the top of my head...getting the middle cut slightly shorter than the outer parts on top, not to look like horns, but to look messy-spikey and less like a mushroom? Because at the moment it looks like it's been cut a bit like a circle, the highest hair being at the centre and then getting short on either side of the top of my head... is this making sense? Does anyone have any advice on how to cut it, because I def need a new hairstyle then!!

Photo perhaps? It'd help with figuring out your face shape too.

it'll be the worst quality ever in a bid to protect my identity but okay I'll upload one in a second to show the outline of the hair. Also face shape is oval, slim.

Wondering if I should ask them to cut the top differently, and if so, how? It looks like a mushroom, would rather it was all straight, choppy looking, but not looking like 2 horns on my head if you get what I mean.

From the pic, you either have a really big egg head or you are spiking it up, which is obv going to make it look mushroomish..
Also the fact that you have the sides cut with a number 1 and the top scissor cut means that as the hair grows it is going to look odd, so you probably need to get it cut a lot more.. A scissor cut is the equivalent of around a number 5/6 depending on the stylist.. So you imagine, after 4 weeks, the sides are probably a number 5 and the top which was a number 5 at the time of cutting is probably a lot lot longer!!

If you have been having your hair cut into this V shape thing all the time then maybe its time for a change..??
What products do you use..?? You may find that having you a scissor cut the same length all over will allow you to use wax or putty to style your hair..
And in my view, the V cut went out of fashion about 2 years ago..

yeah it's spiked up, I use VO5 fibre putty... to be honest I wouldn't know how else to cut it!! Got no idea what would suit my face and I've stuck with this for years because it's safe for a few weeks, doesn't look stupid till a month later. Face shape is oval and thin, got any ideas? The V shape is only on the back and it fades after a few weeks so it's not that bad. I once asked them to cut the back off completely and it looked stupid so I want some good length for the back, I know that much.

Heres a pic of me.. I have mine cut by my girlfriend who is a hairdresser..
She does it scissor cut on the top and a number 2 on the sides..
I then just use wax to style it.. Just drop the V for a change and see how you like it, you can always go back to it if you decide you dont like it..
Soz for the crap pic..

imho - the best way for a bloke's haircut to look better for longer is to get a crew cut from the start so it's all the same length.

Personally I have a number 4 all over and that looks fine for 5/6 weeks. Then have it all cut off again.

Mine looks similar for the first 2 weeks, with have the V as well though. Mine did look exactly like that when I asked them to get rid of the V but it doesn't suit my face shape, my hair is thinner than yours I think.

Just try new things.. Go to a decent hairdresser and see if they need models.. You will get a Junior stylist who probably has about 6 months experience, who will be supervised by a fully qualified supervisor.. It will cost you nothing!!! And the qualified stylist will probably give you some advice.. which will also be free cos you are helping train the Junior..
