Classical civilisation personal statement reading

Hello, I’m thinking of applying for classics civ for uni and want to get some reading done for my personal statement over summer. I’ve got a lot of the primary stuff done ( tragedies, epics ect) and have an idea of a couple more I want to tackle over the summer. I was wondering if any one could recommend me some good modern books to read, perhaps ones covering the topic of everyday life in the ancient world, or religion? Or anything that you think is an interesting read? Any replies would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, this is really late, but if you're still looking I have some:

- Jerry Toner's books on Romans are really good. They're not academic, but they show you life for different people in Rome, particularly focusing on the empire
- Invisible Romans is also good
- Women in Greek Myth
