I'm guessing that if you're watching TV over the net then you don't need a tv licence. When I go to uni I intend on only using my TV for watching films, and watching any TV using BBC iPlayer so I don't have to get a TV licence.

If you're watching live TV then, yes, you need a licence.

Edit: Unless you're using a laptop and you're only watching it while the laptop is running off its battery (when it becomes a portable device and is covered by your parents' licence).

Yes you do need a license for using Zatoo as it is live TV.

If you were to use BBC iPlayer or 4OD - which isn't live TV then you don't need a license.

I emailled the tv liscence people and they say that it's fine to use your parents tv license IF you're using a laptop running off the battery, but you need to email them confirming this with your uni address so they dont annoy you

Well I got an email from them yesterday telling me to give them my uni address so they can cross me off the list. So I presume as I'll be registered as being covered by a TV licence it makes more sense for them to annoy people who aren't...

From experience they do stop annoying you when you have a licence...
