I think it's principally because the Scots aren't perceived as having that typical English politeness/awkwardness. They're viewed as a people who say things as they are and are not afraid to call people out.

Ginger hair, makes them fiery ****ers.
Also they have had to live in England's shadow and it irks them.
**** weather, **** politicians, **** goalies etc.
