how to talk to cute guy at work

so there's this guy at my work (I work in a supermarket) who has been there for a couple months and he's kinda cute. problem is we've never spoken as I'm quite shy and generally wait til other people start a conversation with me and I think he's the same, he seems very shy but does talk to a couple of people. I feel like because it's been a while it would just be awkward now to randomly talk to him but I really want to, what should I say?!

maybe just start saying hi when you pass him or see him? even if you don’t have a conversation, at least you guys are greeting each other? then if you happen to be close enough for a conversation, you can just start a basic one like “I don’t think we’ve spoken, I’m...” or something.

I’d just start by saying hey when you see him even if that’s all that’s said. At least then he knows you’re willing to talk and that might bring him out of his shell a bit?
