GD Lettings

Just a note to all students going into private accommodation at Aber, if you can please avoid GD lettings.

Iwas with these the year just gone, we have only just received our deposit back - nearly 2months after our contract ended. Plus they have taken £30 of all 8 of us, so a total of £240 for cleaning! There is no way our house was that dirty to take £240 for cleaning.

Plus a lot of repairs took a while to be sorted, and we left the house in a better ocndition than when we moved in so if you can avoid this company!

I could list a lot more faults, but I think this will do for now!!

The definition of hucksterism and charlatanism of the most transparent and cheapest form. From their fairly illiterate correspondence, you are likely to be inflicted with slanderous accusations, hypocritical and illegal claims, that will leave you feeling raped and vulnerable as you are on the back foot as a student, I say none of this lightly.

I too was not privy to a clean house when I moved in, and the state that we are leaving it in is as clean as we can possibly get this regrettable semi-detached.

Any repairs that desperately need attending too will take months to be even looked at, this is the best case scenario, as often nothing is done. The university accommodation office is sick of them, as any tenant that you speak to is.

they are disorganised, professional un-professionals, they will cause you unacceptable stress and heart-ache. Only engage in a contract with these people if you are willing to fight every step of the way.

avoid them, they are frauds and thieves,
Also avoid ALP; trash.
Just to add....they sent me, and my parents a letter claiming i hadnt paid my rent of £600, when i had, and have put my name on a debtors list!!!!!
When realising their mistake, all i got was an e-mail saying 'sorry'!!!!
has anyone else got a review on GD
as i am in two minds whether to go with them!
especially after reading theses reviews?

thanks you

yes i have a review
its that time of year when student rush to find a house!
stay away from gd lettings as much as you can

i cannot stress enough, the amount of stress they caused me and my flat mates. we had a five bed flat, and when we moved in it was terrible- full of rubbish, damp and bugs. they stated they'd have the place cleaned up before we moved in.

also, if anything needed doing, it would take them weeks if months to sort it out! id advice people to stay away.

there are a number of faults i could list but it would take hours to type...they over charged us on our rent each month, accused us of being dirty and charged us for a cleaner!!!! even when the flat was in a better condition than when we moved it. some experience!!!!!!!!!

this year i am with aba maybe, fingers crossed, its alot better than gd!!!!!

Yeah aba are bad too. But it wasn't just the house with my circumstances. Previous tennants hadn't moved out when we were due to move in, none of the rooms were cleaned and we had a leak that was blamed on us despite the fact the plumbing was dodgy and had been affecting the electricity. Also moldy walls.

My advice is keep making a nuisance of yourself if things aren't right and don't be afraid to get your parents involved in complaints (especially when you first move in, if things aren't sorted from the start it's going to be more difficult).

Good luck and I hope for your sake you're not moving into that house.
Hi! I'm going to Aber in September and try to find something the most appropriate to move in as you can read here http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=164479. Is there any company you can recommand, because now I know which one I shouldn't choose, but I have to make a decision soon.

The agency themselves are fine, they are friendly and as efficient and professorial as I would expect from a small student orientated letting agency. They were quite lenient with us at points with house inspections and the occasional late rent payment. The landlord they work for however is not so nice. He has a reputation as a very wealthy accountant who owns much of Aberystwyth, for being very tight fisted and unresponsive to students. We stayed at one of his properties for 2 years (paying around £50,000 in total between us for the privilege) and before moving in were promised a new boiler, kitchen and bathrooms, none of which happened while we were there. He also took 2 weeks to replace our broken washing machine, insisting he could fix it, only to replace it with an even more dilapidated one that was also broke, before finally giving in. GD lettings were apologetic but unable to be of much help without his say-so. Still we had a good time and I'm sure they're not as bad as people above make out!

Hi nwall42,

As you can see this thread was created back in 2008, one users experience posted in 2009 and one at the start of 2011. So over 5 years or so there's only been 3 negative reviews on TSR. I agree the amount of Aber students using TSR isn't that high but there are still enough people on here to have opinions over the lettings agencies around the town. So for there only to be 3 negative reviews I'd say that was pretty good. As the people say, you only hear when something goes wrong...

As I said in my previous post, this thread dates back to 2008 and has a couple more negative posts years apart. That's pretty good going for a lettings agency, who at the best of times aren't necessarily a student's best friend...
