I only use the LLB to add gravity when dealing with morons, otherwise I never use it (graduated LLB hons with a first). I actually find it a little pretentious, but it has its uses occasionally!

You can apply once you have achieved 'junior counsel'. Although you can apply at that stage they normally require 10-15 years experience before permitting you to put on the silk. Looking at the age of this post, the OP may well be a silk now....
