do the AEA history in order to have a better chance of success when applying to study history at either oxford or cambridge??

I'm just abit confused

In a word, no. They realise that most schools don't offer the AEA(I had certainly never heard of it before applying). It is certainly not necessary therefore.

No, but it looks nice on the application, so it doesn't hurt your chances

Just bear in mind that if you do do it then they are able to ask for a certain mark in it.
