I’m applying for an English degree and have found a perfect article about social dialects to mention a sit has some good points. I’ve read parts of it, but not all of it, as a) it’s a large article and not all relevant b) some parts are really complicated and make no sense to me. Is it a bad idea to mention it in case they mention it in my interviews and ask about the bit I don’t get? (Applying to Cambridge hence the interview)

If I were you, I'd read the whole thing. It's not uncommon to discuss parts of your personal statement at interview and you don't want to be caught out. Besides, it'll probably teach you some stuff even if it's not entirely relevant!
