Hey

Due to the virus I decided to apply for essay competitions such as the one held by the John Locke institute so I can improve my personal statement.

The issue is that due to my internet (screw you Sky), i was unable to submit my essays in time.

My question is that am I still able to mention my 'participation' in the competitions in my PS, or should I leave it out?

You can mention writing essays for submission to the competition. Don’t claim that you entered a competition that you didn’t.

The value of super curriculars in a PS isn’t that you did or didn’t enter a competition - it’s what you enjoyed, learned, struggled with, were pleased with, would do differently etc etc. In other words the details - that’s what makes your PS personal AND allows you to demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for your subject
