A baby elephant that had fallen into a well in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, has been rescued by local villagers.

The baby elephant slipped into a large cultivation well, many of which are used as 'booby traps' designed to capture wild animals.

Lol I found that on the BBC website, and wondered why they considered it of necessary importance to inform the world? I'm not saying the elephant should have been left to die, but really, amidst a Russian war with Georgia and upcoming presidential election, why would we care whether or not an elephant can merrily prance around?

It's called drop the dead donkey.

Nothing new was happening so they found a really random current happening that has more interest.

Rejoice - when something as random as this is reported it means very little else bad is going on
