In a statement, the head of the UK's space directorate said: "We are concerned by the manner in which Russia tested one of its satellites by launching a projectile with the characteristics of a weapon."

The statement said actions like this "threaten the peaceful use of space".

The US has previously raised concerns about this Russian satellite.

Is this the usual US/Russia tit-for-tat accusations or could we be heading in the direction of another Space Race?

This seems a somewhat disingenuous accusation from the country that just launched a 'space force' and has a history of blowing up satellites..
This particular quote being quite amusing;
"Moscow aims to restrict the capabilities of the United States while clearly having no intention of halting its own counter-space programme," he said.
It rather sounds like the argument a child would use.
