I got a first overall in second year, meaning I just need to get 2:1s in my third year modules. I should be really happy, but I have literally no one to tell or celebrate with. I’ve told my mum but she’s generally not concerned with my academic abilities so I honestly just feel really lonely and upset. I feel like I’ve sacrificed my social life to get this degree but now that seems pointless.

I had a lot of friends in sixth form, but arguments within the group etc ended up with us parting ways, and I’ve struggled to click with people at my uni (Imperial). I’ve realised, especially in this lockdown, that I genuinely have no friends and I’m wondering whether the first is even worth it

Congratulations!! That's an amazing achievement you should be very proud of
Also regarding the social aspect, I know it feels like you've given up that for your degree, but I promise you will be able to meet so many new people going forward and have time to socialise.
That being said, good luck with your future!

congratulations mate, just keep your head down and dont be complacent during your final year. As someone who was in a similar boat to yourself, its annoying not to have someone to talk to or willing to talk to you after sacrificing so much and going through hell to walk away with good results. it may be worth trying to reconnect with your friends (believe me, i find myself reconnecting a lot with my old high school and sixth form friends thanks to lockdown) as at the end of the day, not all relationships are unsalvagable.

Thank you! I’m so grateful for everyone’s messages on here. Honestly my (lack of a) social life was just getting to me and I’m really hoping to figure out a way to make more friends in third year without neglecting my studies

Thanks for your advice . Yes I’m really trying to find a way to make friends in their year without neglecting my studies. A lot of my sixth form mates were pretty two faced unfortunately, so even though a lot of the arguments in our group weren’t to do with me quite a few cut off ties with sixth form friends completely.
