For some athletes, today was the last chance to take part in the Tokyo Olympics.
They are too old, too exhausted or too financially stretched to wait for another year, after the pandemic forced its postponement.

Sad news for anyone who's trained for 4 years then had it put back for what they hoped was a year and disastrous news for any one getting on and coming to the end of Olympic chances.

A long shot but has anyone been training for a 2021 bid?

Really sad times. I think it's worth mentioning that there are much more damaging ways a pandemic can affect you but I do think it's a real shame for the sport to have long serving athletes who's stories could inspire so many not getting the limelight they deserve.

The same goes for the paralympics too, of course.

Sadly, many of these athletes will "age out" before getting another chance to compete.
