📚🐱Non-fiction Book Club! Nekos Blog 🐱📚
Hi I'm the person who uses the :nyan: emoji a bit too much, welcome to my blog! Thanks to my fellow history nerd 04MR17 for the nomination :yy:
I'll probably just do this over the summer, but I might carry it on, who knows?

About me :nyan:
Finished Year 13 (did history, English lit, geography and EPQ) and with results day out of the way, I can now confirm that I will embarking on a history degree this September unless we go under lockdown again!

My interests :nyan:
Watching Films :kitty:
I’m a massive Studio Ghibli film fanatic (hence my username and pfp being catbus from My Neighbour Totoro). Studio Ghibli are a Japanese animation film studio most well-known for films such as Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle etc.
Image

Here's a full list of all the Ghibli films I've seen since lockdown began
Spoiler:

📽 Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind (1984)
📽 Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) - very good film
📽My Neighbour Totoro (1988) my all time fav
📽 Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
📽 Only Yesterday (1991)
📽 Porco Rosso (1992)
📽 Ocean Waves (1993)
📽 Pom Poko (1994)
📽 Whisper of the Heart (1995)

📽 My Neighbours the Yamadas (1991)
📽Spirited Away (2001) won the Oscars!
📽 The Cat Returns (2002)
📽 Howls Moving Castle (2004) soooo good
📽 Tales from Earthsea (2006) - underrated gem
📽 Ponyo (2008)
📽 Arrietty (2010)
📽 From Up On Poppy Hill (2011) - it's good if you ignore the incesty bit:eek:
📽 When the Wind Rises (2013)

Online courses :kitty:
Our teachers at school recommended us to do some MOOCs so we could write about it in our personal statements but I couldn’t be bothered to do any back then which is why I’ve taken the opportunity to do some now. I do all my courses on EdX and Futurelearn so you can find these courses on there if you’re interested.

Here's the list... (the ones in fancy colours were ones that I really enjoyed)
Spoiler:
Show

🧙🏻The Manchus and the Qing (EdX)
🧙🏻Controversies of Empire (Futurelearn)
🧙🏻Vernacular Architecture in Asia (EdX)
🧙🏻The French Revolution (OpenLearn)
🧙🏻Preparing to Learn Online at University (Futurelearn)

And FINALLY, onto my goals for this summer!

1. Read more!
2. Learn how to cook – because I don’t want to be living on takeaway meals at uni
3. Finish watching all of Studio Ghibli’s films – getting there
4. Watch Despicable Me 1 and 2 – borrowed from school library, COMPLETE
5. Take pretty pictures of places around me on the rare occasions that I leave my house :sadpanda:
6. Read more books in my native tongue - must've accidentally deleted this goal when I was formatting this post
7. Do some MOOCs (online courses)

Hey this looks really cool! I'm really interested in ancient history (I take Latin and Greek GCSE), though I haven't read many non-fic books on the subjects (a lot of fiction though!). A book I'm planning on reading after I've finished the book I'm currently reading is Rubicon: The triumph and tragedy of the Roman Republic by Tom Holland- really excited to read it!
