nottingham vs Warwick... course vs uni rep

not sure which forum to put this in but ive firmed industrial economics at uni of nottingham (aab) despite my predicted being a*a*a as Warwick and st Andrews rejected me (plus nottingham rejected me for straight econ which I applied to but they gave me an offer for industrial econ instead). everyone's telling me that im not fulfilling my potential by doing an aab course even though i got all 9s at gcse.

i saw that warwick have an econ psychology and philosophy course in clearing which im interested in applying for but im concerned about employability with a behavioural economics focused degree. im not really interested in going down an academic route (masters, phd etc) and i thought that Nottingham's course content which is basically business econ would perhaps be more 'useful' when finding a job.

pros of notts;
+business econ is my strong point
+relevant to what I want to do in the future (ib/ consulting)

cons of notts;
-very minimal macroeconomics; disadvantage if I wanted to do ib/ consulting?
-not as strong uni rep??? idk but esp as im doing industrial econ rather than pure econ

pros of Warwick;
+great uni rep
+micro and macroeconomics

cons of Warwick;
-behavioural economics pathway could lead me down an academic route as there are few behavioural economics careers
+however, there are plenty of optional modules for me to choose from so it doesn't have to be too behavioural economics focused
-but ive emailed Warwick to ask for the list of optional modules and they said they haven't decided yet so im taking a gamble and just going to have to pray they offer modules im interested in

this is way too long sorry but if anyone read it, what do you think?

Better check offered modules rather than course title.
Sometimes two different course titles offer exactly the same modules through years.
If there's not much difference, I'd go with the uni and the city I like.

I have studied in Warwick (2008.. GOSH a long time) and met far too many people from Nottingham after graduation.

My impression, which is based off a rather general feeling, is that Nottingham seems to be a little more sociable. Warwick's edge (relative to Nottingham) is that people tends to be a little more privilege. For example in one company (big US name) I worked for, I see managers from Warwick but not that many from Nottingham. So Warwick does give a little more prestige in the real world.

Yes of course there are exception because it depends on the person ultimately, there are unemployed Warwick grads and Nottingham grads who can make it to top banks for their dream jobs etc but on a whole from the number of people I have met, Warwick has a slight edge in the job market.

If you sir ain't going for the grad route which btw I have looked into that (and the ans is you need a maths degree.. sorry to disappoint you), then my vote goes to Warwick. Also I don't think pure degrees are that bad because in our world it is better to be specialised and you can always take some modules outside Econ department. That said I know Warwick EPAIS who did good as professional Economists. My word of advice is, if you are adventurous see if you want to do a mid year to enrich your CV or experience (like exchange program). And also if you in Warwick do try to submit an article or two to the Economics newsletter, boost your name and also test if you are into Economics.

Thank you for this. I saw it but completely forgot to reply earlier. I also agree that the impression I got was that Nottingham was more sociable but Warwick had the academic 'edge'. I prefer Nottingham as a university but I recognise that I'm there to study and get a degree first and foremost, plus I'd like to think I can adapt to wherever I go since everyone usually says that your social life is what you make of it. I actually applied for epais in back in october by the way hahaha. I'm definitely looking to do either a year abroad or a year in industry (ideally a semester abroad and a 6 month-ish work experience if this is possible) so that's exciting, and I'll look into the economics newsletter. Thanks for all the advice!!

oh and forgot to say i got a place in adjustment for epp lmao
I am in a similar situation to you. Not the same universities but similar nonetheless. I could either do Mechanical engineering with a foundation year at Loughborough or Architectural Environmental engineering at Nottingham.

I prefer Nottingham as a uni but Loughborough has the course I want to do. Mechanical engineering graduates also seem to have better prospects and more versatility in the job market.

After hearing this I want to pick Loughborough but I'm worried ill change my decision later as I have been doing since these options were presented to me.

So I'm just wondering if you are happy with what you choose (if you have chosen anything at this point).
