if you've removed the tag, for all they know you could have worn it and done that yourself so they probably wont let you return it
is there any way of reattatching the tag in a convincing way?

should be ok as long as you still have the original packaging including the tags

basically i bought a really nice knitwear dress from miss selfridge today and when i got it home i took the tag off straight away (i had no plans to return it).
but, i've just noticed a small hole in the dress! :woo:
i still have receipt and the tag (had to rummage through my bin a bit lol) so would i be able to return it and swap it for a non-damaged one?

thanks for replies

Explain it to them. Argue with them!!!

Its their problem, not yours!! Make sure your loud if they don't listen!!

I've returned stuff once I ripped the tag off before I found a flaw.

I just took it back, said I ripped the tag off and then found the flaw. They normally let you exchange it for a new one if you still have the tags & receipt.

Where I work we usually allow exchange of the item, as long as the receipt is presented to us. I'm guessing, from the amount of times I've taken items back without tags, that this is common policy.

You should be fine
All you need is the receipt. It's faulty, you have the right to an exchange.

Ha, except that she's out of money and the store doesn't have to take it back.

OP reattach the tag if you can, but looks like some potentially awesome negotiations are in order. Probably not though, it's not like it's been a month since you bought it.
I've done that before, it's fine. As long as you put the tag in the bag with the receipt and the dress, you should be fine!

They do have to take it back. You don't even need your receipt, though it helps

They'll let you exchange it for the same amount that the item was worth.
I did this with a pair of shoes; they were too small, but took off all the tags etc before trying them on at home. Once I did, they were the wrong size. Took them back, said I had the receipt but not the tags and they let me just get a new pair!

You have a month to return it from the day you first purchased it. Its really no problem lol.

What? I mean, surely then I can buy some clothes, cut holes in them and then return them without a receipt or tag as a way of holding a grudge against a store! Or even better, buy some clothes off eBay and then return them to the store that also sells them to make profits

I disagree... I think it's much better to approach the situation honestly, because OP isn't in the wrong, and shouldn't have to make things look different to how they are in order to be reimbursed.

If the tag is torn then fine (which it is in the case, having read other post), return as is. But if it's not damaged just tie back on. That's what I would do.

i know but they might think i bought it on friday, to wear for the weekend and then return during the week
i might send my mum to return it - im sure they'll take a 40 year old woman more seriously than a teenage girl.

Yes, I've known people who've done that, but they can't assume everyone has done that.

You are well within your rights, don't be afraid to assert them.

They should either offer you an exchange or a refund, most likely an exchange but i would approach the situation honestly and not try and re-attach the tab just explain what happened. Usually when someone comes into were i work in situations like this i have to ask my manager and she usually says yeah it's fine because theres proof of purchase etc.

It should be fine
