It's just taken my pile of crap internet 7 minutes to load facebook.

If this is going to set my internet speed for the day, I'll go mad.

And BT claim the line hasn't got any problems. Grr!!

Your £12 is probably just subsidising the prodigious amounts of obscure porn being downloaded by your neighbour.

Tell us what you get on the speed test and what you should be getting (what you pay for, up to 1MB or something?)

Usually you will get a lot less if you are a few Kilometers from the telephone exchange... Which is beyond BTs control.... I know because at my other adress I have BT and it's crap, but the connection I'm using now is Virgin Media and about 100x faster)

I'm paying for up to 8meg, and am 2.5k's from the exchange.

That seems quite low, but the quality of the copper line may be poor due to weathering and old age. All I know is that you are getting a lot faster than my BT connection at my mother's adress, where the house is around 3Km from the exchange and the Broadband is 12MB, but the wire is 'nackered' and BT can't do anything

If you can get Virgin Media services in your area you pay for, say up to 8Mb, and you'll probably get about 6-7.5Mb as they use special cable that doens't lose quality over distance When you go to the site and enter your postcode if it says "you can still get our broadband down your BT phoneline don't bother, as it will be the same, it needs to be in a specfic virgin cable area)

Nooooo. Virgin sucks. My internet is pretty slow. Although I seem unable to get more than 2Mb in this pants area. Ffs, so obviously 'high speed Virgin' doesn't make any difference

    My speed test :

    Download 1.5Mb Upload 143Kb < < That's appalling!

Edit: Just looked at my small town stats and it's 9Mb on average :O WTF?! and 531Kb upload. That is not fair

Really? Are you on the 2Mb package? It looks as if you are, unless there is something seriously up with your cable...

Call them and ask what's happening... There's something wrong somewhere... Maybe you could get a discount because they advertise as "not losing speed like BT" but technically their contract covers them even if you don't get close to the full amount because of the "up to" bit...

Mine's 1.5mb/373kb for download/upload, it's meant to be way faster than this :/ Ah well, moving out soon anyway so I can just forget about it soon.

Same, haha. I'm always happy when I go to my friend's and can download on his faster broadband because I'm such a geek...

My internet connection used to have a 70% downtime too, as in no connectivity at all that amount of the time. Landlord wouldn't do anything about it... thank god it sorted itself out.
