I was wondering if it is a good idea to ask my Univeristy (University of Strathclyde) to place me at 2nd year entry for the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering course as I got higher grades than the ones that they asked for.Though given the current circumstances -COVID- and that most of the educational year will be done through online classes ,do you think is a good idea to make that request?

Discuss it and see if its an option. The only thing I can think of is be aware that Y2 students will already have cliqued off to a certain extent, so be sure your social skills can handle it.

I certainly know that it is an option, I'm just not sure if I should go with it or not.

Then just do the pros and cons.
It cant be that hard to find some Scottish undergrads to tell you how they felt taking either choice. Maybe post in the sub forums of the unis or under Highers?

Sorry wasnt much help. If its common, then there are only 2 aspects.
1. Academically can you cope? If your grades are sufficient then I think it likely and you could be bored the other way.
2. Socially, but then if its common to accept students into Y2 (have heard of it before) then will you make enough friends and have the social skills to do so?

You do a year less, which is either a pro or con.
Are you 18, which is another slight issue for things like pubs.

They're referring to some Scottish students starting uni when they're under 18, meaning they can't go to pubs etc. If you're 18 then this doesn't apply to you
