As above.

I bought a fresh fig today because I really like dried ones but I haven't a clue how you're meant to eat it. Do you eat the outside, what colour is it meant to be etc?

Yes, I eat the outside. I just eat it as it is. You can cook them too, try looking for some recipes online, if you can be bothered.

No, for one thing they're purple and green on the outside.

Mine is mostly purple with a little green, I guessed green means its not 100% ripe yet?

Have No Imagination: just bite into it like an apple?

I tend to chop them in half and scoop out the middle with a spoon. It will be fairly soft when ripe.

I love fresh figs :yep:

Its just a shame they are so expensive

Edit: I have never eaten the outside before. Way too tough IMO.

I got them 3 for a pound, didn't seem too bad.

For figs that certainly isnt bad.
But when you think of the amount you get out of them it is quite expensive. Although I could just continually eat them until they were coming out of my ears so that may make it more expensive
Was this at a market or in a supermarket? The supermarkets round here are normally pretty expensive with all exotic fruit.

You are meant to eat the outside as well. In Spain, they come pretty soft even on the outside. You can eat pretty much the whole thing apart from the bit at the top where it was attached to the tree - well you could even eat that!

Lidl had them for 39p the other week or something ridiculous like that. They were well cheap.

Slice in half, top to bottom. Scrape out the seeds in the middle.
Use a spoon, scrape off the flesh from the skin, eat the flesh.

Easy.

Yes you can eat the out side but some people choose not to or you can just peel the skin off and eat the flesh from the middle. Tried them in Turkey fresh straight from the tree, the tour guide man suggested not to eat the skin thought.

I have three fig trees, so in the summer i get liek 20 a day. Anyways, I pull the skin oiff, like a banana and eat the inside, or if it's super ripe I pull it in half and suck it all up.

...because it's got a strong laxative effect. But then so does the rest of the fig, but not to the same extent
