whats the difference between digital output and optical output? is there a difference??

Im looking for a soundcard with digital output capability, either an external one, laptop one, or even one for my desktop.

Digital outputs can either be optical or co-ax.

You can be pretty sure thats a optical output = digital, and that digital output = optical or coax

Well theres no defined use for either method of transmission. My computer speakers have DA converter in them, and accept optical or coax. Its entirely device dependant.

Just so you know - coax uses normal copper cables to transmit, normally on an RCA or a 3.5mm jack. Optical is obviously light.

Beware - optical cables are more expensive.
